Food Train is a registered charity, voluntary organisation and social enterprise. Since 1995 Food Train has been making daily life easier for older people, providing vital services to those who are no longer able to manage independently, through age, ill health, frailty or disability. Following 15 years of successfully supporting older people throughout Dumfries and Galloway, in 2010, Food Train embarked on our ambitious project to make our services available to older people in other parts of Scotland. With support from the Scottish Government, Community Food and Health Scotland and the relevant health and social care partnerships, we are delighted that Food Train services are now available in many more areas.

Food Train’s shopping delivery service ensures that older adults have access to fresh and affordable groceries, delivered directly to their home on a weekly basis, or less often if preferred. Volunteers can unpack and put shopping items away where needed. Anyone over the age of 65 who has difficulty getting their grocery shopping can use the service. It costs £5 per delivery, which is paid alongside the cost of the shopping. Food Train is a member service costing £1 per year to join. Food Train also run Meal Makers in Stirling and Clackmannanshire. This is a project that connects people who love cooking and are happy to share an extra portion of a delicious home cooked meal with an older neighbour. Anyone over the age of 55 who would enjoy a delicious home cooked meal and some company can use the service. It costs £24 a year, which is paid alongside the £1 annual membership.
